RECEIPTS · FREE PUBLIC BETALegal information, not legal advice. About beta & feedback

This legal-information service is still being improved. We welcome reports of confusing explanations, outdated sources, accessibility problems and errors. Check official sources before important decisions. RECEIPTS provides legal information, not legal advice.

No subscriptions, one-time support payments or AI-assisted research are offered during beta.

OUR ACCESSIBILITY MISSION

Public law should be understandable and verifiable for everyone.

Our goal is to make U.S. legal information easier for everyone to use. Start with everyday words. Choose the reading and display tools that help you, whatever your reading level or access needs.

Law information is for everyone. Start with everyday words. Use the reading tools below if they help. You do not need legal training to begin.

Understand the law. See the source. Know what to check next.

Start in three steps

  1. Ask your question. Short phrases and everyday words are welcome.
  2. Add the place, if known. RECEIPTS asks when a location is needed.
  3. Read or listen, then check the source. Some results have an explanation. Others have source links only.

Source starting points cover federal law, all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories. Local and tribal questions need the particular place, nation, and court. This is not a checked answer to every U.S. law question.

For children and families: use public learning pages together with a parent or guardian. The account age rules and children’s privacy information still apply.

Accessibility commitment

RECEIPTS is working toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA and simpler language and tasks for people with cognitive and learning disabilities. We are still testing and improving. This is a design goal, not a claim of full compliance. Review needs to include people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, enlarged text, and other access tools.

Accessibility limits

Some features depend on your phone or browser. For example, the number of speech voices exposed to the browser varies by device and browser, from a system voice only to many named voices. External government websites also have their own accessibility behavior. RECEIPTS will describe those limits instead of pretending a feature is available.

Official wording stays official. Text size, read-aloud, contrast, spacing, and simple interface labels can change how information is presented. They do not silently alter quoted statutes, regulations, court text, or official-source wording.

Report an accessibility problem

If something is hard to read, hear, navigate, or operate, send an accessibility report. You do not need to include private case details.

Last updated October 20, 2026. Accessibility work is ongoing and will be updated as RECEIPTS features change.
